The ECRUL Project Management Unit, in collaboration with the College of Science and Technology, successfully organized a study tour for 2nd and 3rd-year Water Resources Engineering students from 11–15 March 2026. The programme aimed to enhance students’ practical knowledge through exposure to Thimphu Thromde’s ongoing initiatives, particularly Nature-based Solutions (NbS) implemented under the Rehabilitation of Primary Stormwater Drainage II project.
During the tour, urban planners and engineers from Thimphu Thromde and the Department of Human Settlement introduced key NbS concepts. This was followed by field visits to primary stormwater sites, Changyul Park, and Changangkha Ecological Park, where students gained hands-on experience in urban stormwater management practices, including the application of bioswales.
The tour included visits to the Taba and Babesa Water Treatment Plants, and practical fieldwork at the Wangchhu River, where students measured discharge and studied river dynamics.
This study tour is a core initiative under the ECRUL project.
