The National Housing Development Corporation Ltd. (NHDCL) successfully organized a one-day Inception Workshop on Green Building Design and Nature-Based Solutions on 26 February 2026 in Paro. The workshop marked an important step towards strengthening climate-resilient and sustainable urban development in Bhutan.
The workshop brought together 39 officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport , Royal University of Bhutan, Ministry of Education and Skills Development , local governments, and private sector firms. The event served as a platform to introduce key concepts and practical approaches related to green building and sustainable urban design.
Technical sessions were led by experts from D2O Consultants, in collaboration with Mandala Architects. The sessions covered key topics such as green building principles, climate-resilient design, nature-based solutions, passive design strategies, green building rating systems, and tools for building design optimisation. Interactive discussions encouraged knowledge sharing and collaboration among stakeholders involved in Bhutan’s urban development sector.
This workshop is a core initiative under the ECRUL project.
